Some sessions just stay with you.
Baby Austin's newborn session is one I don't think I'll ever forget. Not just because of the beautiful images we created together, but because of the story behind why they almist didn't happen at all.
Mum originally wasn't sure she would book newborn photos. Like so many parents, those early weeks felt like a blur. Adjusting to life with a new baby, navigating sleepless nights, and wondering if the moment had already passed. By the time Austin was three weeks old, she thought she might have missed that tiny newborn window.
But something told her she couldn't let this season slip by undocumented. And I'm so glad she listened to that feeling.
It's never too late to capture your baby
One of the biggest misconceptions about newborn photography is that if you don't book within the first 7-14 days, you've missed your chance. The truth? Every baby, every family, and every stage is beautiful in its own way.
At three weeks old, Austin brought so much personality into the studio. Wide eyed moments, sweet stretches, curious expressions. All the little details that make this stage so special. Instead of trying to fit into a rigid idea of what a newborn session should look like, we embraced connection, closeness, and authenticity. And that's where the magic happens.
A session focused on love and connection
From the moment they walked into the studio, the energy was calm, warm, and filled with love. My goal is always to create images that feel like memories, not just photographs. Moments like that, years from now, bring you right back to how it felt to hold your baby in those early days.
"I almost didn't book..."
One of my favourite parts of this experience was hearing afterwards how much mum loved her photos, especially knowing she almost didn't do the session at all. Something I often hear is:
'I thought I'd missed the window.'
'I wasn't sure if it was worth it.'
'I'm so glad we did this.'
Because the truth is, these early weeks pass faster than anyone expects. And once they're gone, the only way back is throgh the memories we preserve.
Why this session means so much to me
As a photographer, there are sessions where everything just aligns. The connection, the emotion, the softness of the moments. This felt like one of those shoots. It reminded me why I do what I do: capturing love exactly as it is, so families can hold onto these fleeting chapters forever.
Baby Austin's session wasn't about perfection. It was about presence, connection, and documenting a family exactly as they are right now. And that's what makes it one of my favourite shoots yet.
